Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is strongly considering a role in British politics it has emerged.

In an interview with Esquire magazine, the former Labour leader said the public is being forced to make a choice between a government pursuing a โ€œhard Brexitโ€ and an โ€œultra-leftโ€ Labour Party whose policies were out of date.

โ€œItโ€™s a tragedy for British politics if the choice before the country is a Conservative government going for a hard Brexit and an ultra-left Labour Party, that believes in a set of policies that takes us back to the 60s,โ€ he said.

โ€œIn the UK at the moment youโ€™ve got a one-party state. When you put it all together, thereโ€™s something seriously wrong.

โ€œI donโ€™t know if thereโ€™s a role for meโ€ฆ Thereโ€™s a limit to what I want to say about my own position at this moment. All I can say is that this is where politics is at. Do I feel strongly about it? Yes, I do. Am I very motivated by that? Yes.

โ€œWhere do I go from here? What exactly do I do? Thatโ€™s an open question.โ€

He added: โ€œThereโ€™s been a huge reaction against the politics I represent. But I think itโ€™s too soon to say the centre has been defeated. Ultimately I donโ€™t think it will. I think it will succeed again.

โ€œThe centre ground is in retreat. This is our challenge. Weโ€™ve got to rise to that challenge.โ€
