Ukrainian security services have assassinated a Russian army general who was in charge of Vladimir Putin’s Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defence Forces (NBC).

Lt Gen Igor Krillov, 54 was blown up and killed in an explosion as a device was hidden in his scooter, according to Russian investigators.

The scooter blew up as Krillov and his assistant entered the entrance of a building on the Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow which is around four miles from the Kremlin.

The bomb had an estimated 200g of TNT and the device was detonated remotely killing both Krillov and his assistant.

Russia’s investigative committee said, “Igor Kirillov, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and his assistant were killed.

“Investigators, forensic experts and operational services are working at the scene.

“Investigative actions and operational search activities are being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime.”

On Monday Ukraine’s secret service (SBU) charged Krillov in absentia as he was accused of being “responsible for the mass use of banned chemical weapons.”

The SBU has said around 5,000 chemical weapons was used under Krillov’s command and in October the UK sanctioned him for using toxic choking agent chloropicrin on the battlefield inside Ukraine.

A Russian official said there is “hardly any doubts” that the SBU was behind the assassination of Krillov.

Alexei Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma defence committee, was quoted by RIA Novosti said, “They are proud of it, and what is most terrible is that they encourage terrorism in the West.”
