Golf, football and other sporting events to reopen in March

22nd Feb 21 4:18 pm

By the end of March sporting events will be allowed to reopen, the Prime Minister has confirmed on Monday.

From 29 March, “formally organised outdoor sports” for both adults and children, including grassroots football will be allowed to resume, including tennis, open air swimming pools and basketball, this will be “subject to guidance.”

Again, subject to guidance, indoor gyms and leisure facilities will be permitted to resume no earlier than 12 April.

Johnson told MPs, “Other children’s activities, including sport, can restart where necessary to help parents to work (from March 8).

“Outdoor sports facilities, such as tennis and basketball courts and open-air swimming pools, will be able to reopen and formally organised outdoor sports will resume, subject to guidance.”

The vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi told LBC Radio earlier today that outdoor sports would return on 29 March 29, including “organised team sports.”

He said, “The simple way to look at this is that outdoor is safer and therefore we prioritise versus indoor.

“Outdoor sports, tennis, golf, outdoor organised team sports, grassroots football will go back on 29 March.”
