A council has reportedly said they are thinking about charging residents for the weekly bin collection as they have a projected £33 million gap in funding.

Bradford Borough Council has said they will have a funding gap over the next four years and the Liberal Democrats have hit back saying this is a “stealth tax” on their resident.

The Conservative councillor said the Bradford Borough Council will need “consideration of charges for non-statutory services such as green waste collection and Telecare.”

He said the funding gap is a result of increased demand and soaring inflation then there is the ever-rising business rates.

GB News reported, the Lib Dems spokesperson and councillor Michael Headley said, “Residents will be dismayed at the prospect of charges being introduced for green waste collections.”

“This will be yet another stealth tax on top of the record Council Tax increases over the last two years,” he added.

He said that under the Lib Dems “green bin collection was deliberately kept as a free service.”
