Avon and Somerset Police have been warned that should they fail to arrest Bob Vylan over his “deeply offensive” and “appalling hate speech” at Glastonbury Festival would be an “example of two-tier justice.”
Vylan’s “offensive” performance has drawn comparisons to that of the Lucy Connolly case as she was sent to prison for 31 months last year over a simple social media post which was branded racist.
Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said: “It seems very clear that this man was directly inciting violence. He should receive the same treatment under the law as others, such as Lucy Connolly.
“He should be arrested and prosecuted immediately. A failure to do so would be a clear example of two-tier justice under Sir Keir Starmer and his attorney general, Lord Hermer.”
Connolly wrote on social media after the Southport attack which three young girls were stabbed to death by Axel Rudakubana, “Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f—— hotels full of the b——- for all I care, while you’re at it take the treacherous government politicians with them.
“I feel physically sick knowing what these [Southport] families will now have to endure. If that makes me racist, so be it.”
The deputy leader of Reform UK Richard Tice said that if the police are going to be “consistent” then Bob Vylan whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster must be arrested and charged.
He said, “What he did was far worse than what Lucy Connolly did. His chanting was clearly anti-Semitic, it was clearly racist, it was an incitement to violence.”
The Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer who is a former barrister and the head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Vylan’s performance at Glastonbury was “appalling hate speech.”
Speaking to The Telegraph the Prime Minister said the BBC urgently needs to “explain how these scenes came to be broadcast.”
Vylan said in his so called rap chanted “free, free” and the crowd at Glastonbury said in response “Palestine” and repeatedly said “Death, death to the IDF,” the Israeli Defence Force.
Lord Austin of Dudley, the Government’s trade envoy to Israel asked, “we saw this group being broadcast by the BBC as they were inciting violence in a disgraceful moment that will have horrified licence fee payers.
“Now we learn their songs were already known to express disgusting views that will horrify all British people.
“Given this, why was the broadcast covering this act, giving a platform for hate that stands against our nation’s values, when there were other stages to choose from? The BBC has no excuse for a scandalous failure that utterly undermines its public service charter.”
Vylan’s disgusting performance has caused a diplomatic incident as Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel told GB News his chants was an “absolute disgrace.”
Haskel said, “I condemn the BBC. They actually continued to live-stream anti-Israel hate speech. What do you think the BBC would have done had a performer been shouting anti-Muslim or far-Right hate speeches?
“They would have pulled the plug immediately.”
The Israeli embassy in London blasted Vylan’s performance warning this has “raised concerns about the normalisation of extremist language and the glorification of violence.”
Lawyers for Israel have reported Vylan’s Glastonbury performance to Avon and Somerset Police citing that a criminal offence many have been committed as threatening and abusive words were used and racial hatred could be likely to be committed as a result.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said their solicitors are also examining the footage of Vylan’s performance at Glastonbury which could endanger “British Jews.”
A CAA spokesperson said, “The BBC has surpassed even itself in endangering British Jews by airing this violent chanting.”
The Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel has blasted the “BBC and Glastonbury” over Vlyan’s “deeply offensive” comments during the festival performance.
