Black box data will reveal reason for Air India plane crash

Aviation consultant Andrew Charlton has said the only way to determine reasons behind the Air India plane crashing in Gujrat, India would be to examine Black Box data.

He said it appeared from footage of the crash that the plane was โ€œstruggling to get liftโ€ as it took off.

โ€œThere is no evidence of a major explosion during the short flight but it is much too early to say why it crashed. We will need to find out from the black box data,โ€ Charlton said.

Flight tracking data showed the plane reached a maximum altitude of 625 feet, according to Flightradar24. The airportโ€™s altitude is about 200 feet. The aircraft then descended at a vertical speed of about 475 feet per minute.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the tragedy is “heartbreaking beyond words”.

“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words,” PM Modi posted on X.

“In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,” the Prime Minister added.
