The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health alert as parts of England could see the hottest day in June on record.
Sky News weather producer Joanna Robinson warned there could be highs of 34C on Monday.
Across central and eastern England heatwave criteria could be met, if the temperature reaches a certain level for three consecutive days.
The alert means the weather is “likely to cause significant impacts across health and social care services” this could be for those who have health conditions or those aged 65 and over.
BBC lead weather presenter Chris Fawkes said, “The heat will get even more intense on Monday, which is likely to be the peak of the heatwave.
“In East Anglia and south-east England temperatures are likely to reach 33-34C, challenging or surpassing the highest temperature of 2025.
“This is extreme heat and isn’t far away from the June record which stands at 35.6C (96F), recorded at Southampton during the infamous summer of 1976.
“There’s more uncertainty in the forecast for Tuesday onwards. Many computer models suggest cooler and fresher air arrives from the west, but it’s not inconceivable that the hot weather clings on for another day or so in the east.”
Mike Silverstone is a Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said, โHigher temperatures building over the weekend and into early next week will bring particularly warm, hot or even very hot conditions for some, especially in the southeast and East Anglia and more locally elsewhere in England and east Wales. This in part will be influenced by a heatwave developing across western Europe.โ
Mike added, โBy the weekend, an area of high pressure will be intensifying and dominating the UK forecast. Conditions will be hottest in the south and east while areas further north and northwest will be relatively cooler.โ
Mike continued, โMonday could see temperatures reach around 34ยฐC in some parts, though we will be able to be more precise closer to the time. The heat is most likely to gradually relent from the west on Tuesday and into Wednesday, with a return towards more average temperatures for the second half of next week.โ
