Alshaya in advanced talks to snap up La Senza

The new year has brought with it a number of messiahs, swooping in to the aid of ailing companies. While JD Sports is on the brink of snapping up Blacks Leisure, Dragons’ Den star and former owner of La Senza, Theo Paphitis used his twitter feed to disclose that Arabian retail group Alshaya is in “advanced discussions” with the lingerie chain to acquire 60 of the brand’s high street stores.

Owned by private equity firm Lion Capital, La Senza called in the administrators last month after facing austere trading conditions and blamed the “the overall macro environment” for its decision.

Press Association reported that a spokeswoman for Lion Capital said: “We can confirm that Alshaya, a leading international retail franchise operator, is in advanced discussions with La Senza regarding a potential acquisition of part of the UK La Senza business.”

Alshaya owns stakes in a number of British retailers including Next, Debenhams and Mothercare.
