Ouch! Hackers take details of thousands of customers
A total of 656,723 email addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers were stolen from pub chain JD Wetherspoon in a massive cyber attack.
For “a tiny number” of customers, credit card or debit card data was also stolen.
JD Wetherspoon said: “These credit or debit card details cannot be used on their own for fraudulent purposes, because the first 12 digits and the security number on the reverse of the card were not stored on the database.”
According to the FT, the data has already been released for sale on the dark web.
The company has more than 900 pubs across the UK and employs 33,000 staff.
