Tube modernisation named “most successful transport investment in a decade”


Frustrated by station closures, delays, cancellations and the dreaded “planned engineering works”? Then quit your whining. It’s all part of a bigger picture which has seen the modernisation of the London Underground hailed as the most successful transport investment of the last decade.

And not just in the UK, but in the whole world. Yes. At a debate hosted by the business networking group Radius, the upgrades to London’s Tube system, including the introduction of the Oyster Card, saw off competition from Hong Kong and Singapore, and was well ahead of Paris, Amsterdam and New York.

According to the Evening Standard, opinion was split on whether a strong transport union was important for upholding passenger experience and safety standards.
