Top five things Brits want before having children

New research by Furniture123 has revealed some of the top priorities for British adults before starting a family, with 53% of respondents said that landing their dream job was more of a priority than starting a family.

Top five things Brits want to do before having children:

  1. Buy a house (67%)
  2. Travel more (63%)
  3. Land the dream job (53%)
  4. Get married (41%)
  5. Get a pet (29%)

Bucket list favourites including buying a house, travelling and getting married are now more of a priority to British couples than starting a family, a new study has found.

Mark Kelly, marketing manager at Furniture123.co.uk, says: “Times are changing and the age at which couples choose to have their first child appears to be on the rise. We know that finances are generally much tighter for the younger generation so it’s no surprise that many young couples may want to wait until they’re in a more stable position before having children of their own.

“Thanks to the prevalence of social media, there’s growing pressure on young people to go on Instagram-worthy holidays, have the perfect wedding, acquire nicer homes and belongings, and generally live their best lives. But it all comes at a cost – and there’s always more to be bought.

“Budgeting and finding the best deals has never been more important and could bring those plans to start a family a little closer. We recommend shopping around to find those instagrammable bedrooms and knock out living rooms for less – so you can hang onto your savings for the really important things in life, like starting a family.”
