Is cannabis farming on the rise in London?
The Treasury’s own analysis this week found legalising cannabis would raise hundreds of millions of pounds in tax revenues.
Not only that, it would make huge savings in the criminal justice system, the report said.
The research pointed to a report by the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex which found the government would be in line for £500m to £800m a year if cannabis was treated in the same way as tobacco.
It almost seems as though barely a week goes by where we don’t hear about a cannabis factory which was discovered after it set on fire.
In fact, in the last five years there have been more than 100 cannabis fires – 25 of these in just the last 12 months.
London Fire Brigade attend all these incidents and have shared data with LondonLovesBusiness which shows the number of cannabis fires in London could be on the increase.
You’d be forgiven for thinking Camden would come out on top, but it seems Newham has seen the most cannabis fires in the last five years. How does your borough compare?
