Dixons and Carphone Warehouse merger would create new high street giant

A new high street giant could be created if talks between Dixons and Carphone Warehouse result in a merger.

The new group formed would have around 1,300 UK shops and be headed by Dixons boss Sebastian James, according to Sky News.

“The Boards of Dixons and Carphone Warehouse note the recent speculation and confirm that the two companies are in preliminary discussions regarding a possible merger of Dixons and Carphone Warehouse,” the companies said yesterday.

“These discussions are at a very preliminary stage and there can be no certainty that a transaction will be forthcoming.”

Both companies’ shares climbed yesterday as news of the talks reached investors.
