Clarkson cancels – former Top Gear host pulls out of Have I Got News For You appearance

Jeremy Clarkson has announced that he has pulled the plug on his planned appearance on satirical news quiz show Have I Got News For You.

The former Top Gear presenter was due to host the quiz on the 24th of April.

It would have been Clarkson’s first appearance on the BBC since his contract with Top Gear was terminated after he assaulted a producer during a row over the temperature of a steak.

Jimmy Mulville, the managing director of Hat Trick Productions, the company which makes Have I Got News For You, said: “On reflection, Jeremy Clarkson has decided not to host Have I Got News For You. We fully expect him to resume his hosting duties later in the year.”

The new series of Have I Got News for You, will be the 49th for the programme, which has run since 1990. The first episode, screening tonight, will be hosted by Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe.
