Staff at the Passport Office have received bonuses, despite huge delays for many customers.
Many people had to cancel holidays and trips away this summer because of long delays in processing passports. At one point in June, more than 50,000 people were waiting for their passports.
Bonuses as high as £5,000 each were awarded to staff for performance over the previous year and had been agreed back in November 2013, according to the Home Office.
The Passport Office “met seven out of its eight key targets”, it said.
The figures were uncovered by the Labour Party using a Freedom of Information request. The shadow immigration minister David Hanson told the BBC noone should have received a payment because of the backlog problems.
