Apple’s lead designer, Jonathan Ive, has unveiled a limited-edition digital camera created in collaboration with designer Marc Newson for legendary camera company Leica.
The one-off camera is an updated version of the camera manufacturer’s Leica M model, launched in 2012.
It is set to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s charity auction in New York on 23 November to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
The camera took 85 days and more than 735 hours to manufacture and is expected to fetch between $500,000 and $750,000.
Ive has also been involved with the creation of a pair of 18-carat gold Apple ear phones which will join the camera at auction, along with a Steinway grand piano picked by Newson and Ive, and a cosmonaut suit.
