Hanging out with movie stars, going hunting and not getting naked
Hundreds of pages of transcripts of private phonecalls between Tony Blair and Bill Clinton when they were both in power have been released thanks to a BBC Freedom of Information request.
Here are some of the most odd and revealing exchanges:
Clinton likes bananas.
Clinton had a meeting with Blair and the newly-formed Cabinet in May 1997, after Labour won the landslide general election. Blair and the Labour party took inspiration from Clinton’s successful presidential campaign.
Clinton went hare or rabbit hunting in the UK with dogs.
Boris Yeltsin throws one hell of a dinner party.
Princess Diana would have been “off the board” without her sons.
Clinton said George Bush was “really smart”.
Clinton reckons he’s “good with babies”. In fact, he’s really keen to meet Leo, Blair’s baby son.
Clinton hung out with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.
And so did Blair.
Finally, whatever this is.
